Resist The Surge!

Resist the Surge, Protect Your Home!

We’ve heard it all before, right? Protect your items, get a surge protector, be proactive, etc. In fact, we have heard it so often that our ears have become numb to any words surrounding “surge”. But what if it wasn’t just your home you were protecting? What if it was your health, livelihood, your ability to breathe? Surge protectors are for more than just your TVs and computers.

Surge Protector? Tell Me More!

This simple device regulates the power that is supplied to your electronics and appliances. Surge protectors offer protection in amounts called joules. Generally, the more joules the better, as this means the device can handle one large surge or multiple smaller surges before your gear is in danger. Over time, the parts inside the protector wear down, reducing its effectiveness.

The Basics

The basics for surge protectors are pretty easy. Anything that is an electronic device or appliance should have a surge protector. This includes any valuable TVs, computers, gaming systems, light systems, sounds systems. These things are very prone to destruction if there was a surge in power. Unfortunately, there is not much you can do to fix them after this occurs.

Forgetting Something?

We all think about the glamorous things when we want to protect the valuables in our homes. Have you thought about your health-related items? If you are someone who suffers from sleep apnea it is imperative to have a surge protector on your CPAP machine. You could be risking your airway if a storm took out your machine late at night and you weren’t able to get a replacement until the next day. Any other medical equipment or air purifying systems should also be protected.

If you use a generator it is a good idea to have a surge protector on your appliances, as well. Generators are prone to have greater surges give they run off an engine. Surges can be frequent and large.
