Steps to Reduce Indoor Humidity in Your West Michigan Home

condensation on windows

Muggy, uncomfortable, sticky air is never a welcomed guest in our home. Unfortunately, it tends to make an appearance anyway. With temperatures higher than usual in West Michigan this summer, battling indoor humidity is key for maximizing comfort at home! Keep reading to learn a few steps you can take to manage the humidity and restore comfort in your home below.

Step 1: Turn on Exhaust Fans

Exhaust fans aren’t just for unwanted smells or foggy mirrors! Take advantage of the fans in your home and keep them on for a longer period of time. Whether you are taking a hot shower or cooking a five-course dinner, your exhaust fans will make a huge difference in the way your indoor air feels! Fans increase circulation that can reduce humidity and condensation in your home. Shorten those showers!

Step 2: Dehumidify

When beads of water show up on our windows we know we’re dealing with humidity. Dehumidifiers help to make your indoors comfortable in the hot summer heat. When you can remove the moisture from that warm, humid air, you will immediately feel the difference in your indoor air. By controlling the humidity indoors, you will be able to reap the benefits of your AC all summer long!

Step 3: Avoid Heat Producing Appliances

Throughout the day when humidity is at its peak, the last thing you want to do is start a load of laundry or run the dishwasher. Your washer and dryer combined produce quite a bit of humidity. Instead of running your dryer, take your clothes outside to hang on the line to dry. Hours of the dryer running will save you from hours of discomfort inside!

Step 4: Regularly Maintain your Air Conditioner

It’s come as no surprise that household appliances and equipment tend to last longer when they are properly maintained. When it comes to indoor humidity, your Air Conditioner can be a great help in reducing it! Regular equipment Tune-ups and changing your air filters will go a long way in restoring cool comfort to your home!
